Product Description

The Majestic Diamond I?, represents the flagship of micro -monitors regardless of design type. TBI Audio Systems has developed a first of its type in sculpting the frequency response of the micro sized 3-inch driver entirely by internal acoustic means. The resulting product represents the High Definition Sound Standard? (HDSS?) for a micro-loudspeaker. The single driver is in theory, the optimal source for reproducing sound but it is generally used with very inexpensive speaker systems and a few high-end designs. Some current audiophile designs are now based on single drivers but the sound, although coherent, has many compromises associated with their use. With modern quality speaker designs a minimum of one additional driver and electrical crossover network are required to produce the full range of sound

5TBI Diamond 1
By Ansgar
Diamond 1 review.I recently set up a new stereo in my den. The system comprises of a pair of TBI Diamond 1, andthe company's Millenia amp. The source is a wireless Apple Airport station that is linked to a laptop on which I am using itunes for my music playback. The small monitors are placed on speaker stands to elevate them to about 40".When I first listened to these speakers I noticed that there was a new found clarity and detail thatI had not heard on most any speaker before. The Diamonds are pretty small speakers with only one 3" full range driver. Despite its size the bass response is quite remarkable and very natural. On some smaller Jazz arrangements I was not even missing more bass. Late one night listening, I discovered another interesting feature of these speakers. Listening at low volume I could still hear clear details and dynamic. Then I tried to listen from different locations other then sitting in the "sweet spot": well, how can this be, the sound was not just coming out of the speaker I was closer to, yet the sound stage presentation stayed intact, just shifting slightly.I went back to TBI's web site to learn more about the product. The company claims that their patented technology creates the ideal environment for the speaker driver minimizing compression and resonance that causes distortion. Not being a complete novice to audio and speakers I gathered that this new way of employing a rather common paper cone driver used in the Diamond 1speaker in this new kind of enclosure does, or better said, does not do the bad things a conventional enclosure poses on the sound generated. The dispersion has to be improved dramatically to be able to hear the sound stage even though I am not sitting in the center. The lack of resonance produces natural sound that does not have a distinct coloration one might be used to from conventional speakers. I can listen for hours with little fatigue.I have to admit though that sometimes I wish the Diamond's had a little bit more sizzle in the highs or presents. But then listening to the audience clapping or voices in general seem to sound very natural. I had to experiment. Using itunes I boosted the high frequencies with the Equalizer just a bit. Knowing that that kind of tone control can make things worse and not better I was worried to loose the coherency and ambient presentation. To my surprise the adjustment had no ill effect but gave me what I was wishing the response would be. Amazing! For anyone looking for a great "small" speaker that really sounds much bigger then it looks, this is a trade secret to be discovered!

5Event Sound
By Brent
I do not have that much expertise in the technology aspect but I can tell you that the sound coming from these speakers is different. It is very, very clean. There is no hum... We had an event at my small studio space and the sound seemed to blend in perfectly to the networking. I have something different now in the space, something that stands out.

5unparalleled clarity at all volumes
By J. Plummer
After hearing about the HDSS standard from the Sharp i-Elegance Music System for iPod and MP3 Players (High Gloss Red/Black) I did some research and found the creators of HDSS are actually TBI and they sell their own line of HD speakers. I was impressed by the bass produced by the Sharp iPod dock (it has a port on those small speakers to produce bass!) so I decided to pick up a pair of Diamonds via a sale on the TBI site and I am really impressed.I read these work via heat sink technology...TBI have created a low pressure system inside the enclosure to absorb the 'bad' energy from the speaker which usually creates resonance and distortion. These speakers have none of the bad and produce the clearest, most natural sounds at even the lowest volumes.Don't be tricked by the 25w label either, because of this passive heat sink, these speakers do NOT need a lot of energy to create sound the high end guys wish they could get from $10,000 speakers. In an industry full of snake oil and marketing gimmicks, its refreshing to see a new approach with real science behind it. Check out the impulse response measurements on their site here:[...]I ended being so impressed, I eventually upgraded to the Diamond II's for my music room and used these 2 speakers to replace my 6.1 surround sound on my home theater after getting one of their subs - the Magellan. Fastest sub I've ever heard, but I'll save that review for later...for now, all I can say is I couldn't be happier with my TBI speakers and am so glad I found them!
