Great hitch, but not the only option

Bought this for and installed it on a 2006 4Runner by myself. The hitch itself is great, I did a lot of research on it before I bought it, so see below if you are shopping for a hitch for your vehicle.Packaging:It was not boxed well and arrived with some of the parts bent. Worst was the bracket for the wiring connector, because it juts downward and is pretty thin, it poked through the box and the lower arm was bent pretty bad. I repositioned it with a hammer, and it still works fine, so it wasn't worth sending back to amazon.Installation:The install wasn't bad, I was able to do it by myself in about 2 hours, half of which was spent shaving down part of the handle nut assembly so that it would slide through the slot in my frame. Which shouldn't have needed to be done, probably just an issue with my frame in particular If you are thinking of installing it yourself, I would definitely look at the instructions and definitely check out the video for Hidden Hitch 70779 installation on etrailer.com. Other than one of the handle nuts, the rest went on pretty smoothly, which was lucky because it is common for the holes to not match up perfectly. Mine took a little prying for one of the holes near the exhaust. If you have someone to help you hold it in place while you get the first few bolts in I would recommend it, if not I used ratchet straps around the frames to lift both sides up until I got a few bolts started, and it worked extremely well. Again, the video at etrailer.com is very, very good for installing.More about the Hitch:Hidden Hitch 70779, Draw-Tite 75155, and Reese 44548 all appear to be the same hitch. In my search I found Reese to be the cheapest on amazon, but if you find any of these, get whichever is cheapest. One thing to be aware of-hitches produced before 07/31/07 are rated at 350/3500 WC & 500/5000 WD. If produced after they are rated at 600/6000 WC & 730/7300 WD.At the time of this review Amazon's current description of the Reese 44548 is 350/3500 WC & 500/5000 WD and it is $30+ cheaper than the Hidden Hitch. I took a chance on the Reese anyway hoping for the higher rating; and luckily the hitch I received was produced on 12-10-12 and rated at 600/6000 WC & 730/7300 WD.

Not An Easy Installation For The Weekend Wrench

This Reese hitch is apparently available for less money under several other brand names as well. It is well constructed, although it did get a little bent in shipping and needed some straightening. Installing it on an '03 Lexus GX 470 should have been simple and taken less than an hour, but the instructions are very unclear and the diagrams somewhat incomprehensible. My buddy and I fooled around with it for almost 3 hours before giving up. My advice is to pay the $50 to have a pro do it right the first time.
