5Diving into Deep Space
By BD King
The Telescopes I've purchased came with a stock eyepiece that left me wondering why I was not seeing the images other amateur astronomers with similar equipment seemed to see. I finally listened to the advice to upgrade my stock diagonal and move up to a 2" eyepiece. Not just any 2", but a wide field of view eyepiece.I settled on the Celestron Ultima LX 22mm eyepiece after extensive research and friendly advice from several astronomy retailers. I am highly pleased with this choice. At a third of the cost of the high end 80 degree eyepieces, this provides a massive quantum leap in quality from stock eyepieces, and brings an entire new viewing experience to my C11.The Celestron Ultima LX Series provide a 70 degree wide field of view. There is no comparison to the 40-50 degree view with the stock eyepiece. Consider it like breathing through a straw versus drinking from a firehose -- your first experience may be overload.Finding faint deep space objects is much easier, and the clarity and brightness is so superior to my earlier experiences that I feel like I am starting over again in astronomy with an entire new understanding and appreciation. The field is pinpoint from edge to edge, and the view almost seems three dimensional. I added an F6/6 focal reducer to open the view a little more and M42 fills the eyepiece, bright and vivid, looking closer to photos than my previous dissapointing views. For the first time since I got back into astronomy last year, I felt as if I got the quality I expected from my C11 SCT. I am anxiously looking forward to visiting a deep space viewing site next week to go after NGC4038/4039, and reexamine other deep space objects that I am familiar with.If your telescope allows you to use a 2" diagonal and eyepieces, then go the added expense: you won't regret it, and you'll find yourself settling more into just one eyepiece for a specific task than switching back and forth. One note -- this eyepiece weights 538 grams (about 20 ounces) so be ready to rebalance your telescope, or set an intermediate balance if you plan to switch to other, lower quality eyepieces.Strongly recommended.

5Great Eyepiece, Great Price, What R U waiting for?
By St-Nick
1 word "Big" 2nd word, "HEAVY" Since all I ever had were 1.25's thats all I could say about the Ultima 22mm 2"... But after the initial Shock n Awe, I wondered why I waited so long "price" thats what is was, but not with this eyepiece, Its an incredible price for an experience that should be twice as much,,You will Love this Ultima..Looking at M57 "Ring nebula" is breat-taking, even in light polluted areas very crisp image, I also use the Celestron XLT 2"Diagonal, on my Nexstar 8 GPS..Get it you'll be happy you did

5I agree with Mr. King!
By Not Politically Correct
If you have a large telescope that can accept 2" diagnals, get this lens. This is my default lens for both my 12" Dobson and my Nextar C-8, because with the Telerad aiming device, you can find what your hunting for. I agree with Mr. King, the eyepiece is going to reward you with razor sharp views on the worst nights ( I live in Vegas, the most lighted polluted city on the planet.) I come back to this lens to see most of with is in my Celestron C-8 Nextar's Programs views. Celestron's 70mm Teleview eyepieces are the best value for the cash, period. Forget Hyperions, Chinese junk on E-Bay, or $400 Orion eyepieces. The lens constantly delivers WOW!, when looking at planets, Orion, double stars, galaxies, Celstron delivers the best value for the paycheck. Don't waste your money on a scope that accepts only 1 1/4" eye pieces!!! Spend a bit more cash and reward the family with a good scope, otherwise a cheapscope is a exercise in wasted time, frustration, and money. Get at least a Dobson, or at least a 6" Reflector with a computerized mount, stay away from refactors, they are a exercise in frustration. Buy a Go-To computerized mount scope, this is my advice after 40 years of astronomy. My Dobson is collection dust, in favor of a computerized Nexstar C-8! Get 2" eyepices! My 1 1/4" eyepices are a waste of money.
