I bought this hi hat as a replacement for the stock hi hat (CY-5) on the TD-4 Roland drum kit. The difference is amazing. First, the need for a separate hi hat stand (yes, it does need one) means that for the first time in my very young drumming career I have visual indication of when the hi hat is "open". This wasn't the case with the default pedal. More importantly, though, is being able to see how open the hat is. The VH-11 has the full range of open to close, unlike the 3 or 4 positions the stock pedal would permit. Additionally, I never was able to get a decent pedal splash out of the default setup- the VH-11 has a great splash.Overall, a great purchase, pretty easy to set up, and a fantastic addition to my kit. I bought mine used on an auction site and consider it a great buy. The new price would have been a bit to swallow, but still something I would have eventually gotten, given how great the hi hat is.
