Install Issues
By Steven D. Baisley
This product requires more then basic tools to install on a Ford Freestyle. There is NO possible way to install the self treading bolts on the passenger side without the use of some muscle and an air wrench or a power wrench. I did not have these so I went to a place that sold RV's and trailers and they installed the last 2 bolts and charged me $45.00. I think thats a fair price. They probly charged me for about a 1/2 hour labor. An considering they had to clear a bay an lift up the SUV an torques the bolts it adds up. But I just wanted to make sure that everyone else knew this before buying the product. I consider myself a fairly good mechanic and I promise you that because of the tight spot on the passenger side an the fuel pump an gas tank you can not get enough leverage to get those bolts to start threading. So buyer beware. I will say that once installed it seems rock solid. One other problem is that there is a muffler hanger the instructions tell you to remove. Its a metal bracket. The instructions then tell you to cut off about 1 inch of this bracket in order to reassemble the hanger back on the vehicle. So you will need at the least a hacksaw or some other tool that can cut through this half inch round piece of solid metal. And additionally the mounting holes for this bracket are slightly covered by the hitch once its been installed. So now im going to have to grind out or drill out some of the metal to be able to put the muffler hanger back on properly. Way too much trouble but Im moving an didnt have time to send it back an wait for something else so I just did what I had to do but im not happy with it an all the extra work required. I gave it 2 stars because after all the bullspit it seems to be a solid product. I will update this once I use the hitch if theres any additional issues.

receiver hitch
By camiladawg
The receiver hitch was priced right, came on time as promised, and was easy to install. All the parts and instructions were simple to use especially the "fish wires" that were included. These simple but ingenious wires make fishing the bolts through the frame a breeze. I installed the unit single handed (not counting my six year old sons help) using common handtools in about 45 minutes. a second pair of hands would make this quicker. Once installed, you only see the square tube itself, really nice fit.

A very well designed and built piece of equipment. I took my time installing it and followed the instructions. A nice afternoon garage project.
