This ankle brace is expensive, but most are. This one is worth the price. I play tennis 2-3x per week and have an unstable ankle. The braces last a year or two, where other braces I've uses are less effective and don't last as long. The price has increased significantly over the approximately eight years I've been buying them. I think I'm on my fourth one now, with a foray into two other brands and models last year. I don't think I'll waste my time trying out others next time, and just pay the price for this one.

The price is ridiculous for a few ounces of plastic, foam and velcro. But these are quite effective. The curvature and positioning of the brace makes rolling the ankle much less likely. Alternative lame designs I've used provide compression or some stiffness but do not in the end hold the foot so the ankle cannot roll. The Malleolocs are very light and do not otherwise impede movement. They last about 18 months for me, playing recreational basketball. The brace itself doesn't fail, but either the straps wear out or the dense foam cushion is ground flat where the bottom of the foot meets the brace. Substitute parts are available but at similar pricing. In the end I pony up, but not without wondering when the patents expire.
