4Outstanding device... without the recommended software.
By Y. Pragne
Pros: A really outstanding device. Works better, in most cases, than my Garmen Vista C. When paired with Amaze GPS software (this software is free and works with most mobile phones) it works flawlessly. The battery life is superb.Cons: The software that is/isn't included is a trial download (Wayfinder around $20 for the full version). After spending hours trying to download it, I gave up. Go for the free Amaze software.

4Works as advertised

I bought a LD-3w to replace my LD-1W for 2 reasons:The LD-3w is a SIRFIII GPS, and the LD-1W is not. The second reason was the rubber gasket on the bottom of my LD-1W-the one that keeps the GPS from sliding around your dashboard-was coming loose.I wanted a SIRF III to see if the performance of the GPS would be better. While travelling in Europe this past summer, the LD-1W would take anywhere from 15 minutes to hours to figure out it was not in North America anymore and get an initial signal and location. To date, I have not yet had a chance to travel outside North America to see if the 3W's performance is any better in that regard. As I travel extensively-and often on short notice-I am very dependant on my LD-3W and use it every week. Since purchasing the LD-3W, I have noticed that there seems to be less occurances of firing up Smart2go on my phone and not being able to get a fix on my location from the GPS.For what it's worth, the LD-1W has a port to connect an external antenna (though I've never done so) and the 3W does not.Battery life on the 3W is excellent, and there have been times where I forgot to turn off the GPS, and a week later needed to use it and it still had plenty of juice. The LD series of GPS's in general are great, very portable and packable, no frills units, and you will need a 3rd party application to use in conjunction with them. They are very portable, and are smaller then a hockey-puck, allowing you to pack this unit with you where ever you go, or simply pocket it. Sturdily built, it will survive life on the road with you. Finally, the best part of the LD-3W is that it uses the standard smaller sized Nokia phone charger, so you don't have to carry around a seperate charger (as long as you are using a Nokia handset).

5Works Beautifully
By Peter Carney
I got this for Christmas 2007 from my fiancee and it is just wonderful. It more than doubled the usage I get from my Nokia N800. No, there's no software, but I didn't need it with all of the open source options (gpsdrive, maemo mapper, etc.).The SiRFstar III chip is a must. It's very fast and it can get a fix from almost anywhere. I usually keep it in my glove box, console, or coat pocket, and it even works when it is inside the house. The battery life is great especially because it sleeps when my N800 moves out of bluetooth range or shuts off. Oh, and pairing is such a breeze -- just turn it on and look for it.
