The community center where I volunteer recently purchased one of these RUBBERMAID 4-SHELF X-TRA UTILITY CARTS. The staff and volunteers carry a lot of stuff from one end of the building to the other: books, office supplies, etc. Sometimes there's food to be carried and you can make many trips if you have a meal prepared for over twenty people and it all has to be transported to a meeting room that's at the other end of the building. The staff decided on this particular utility cart and it's been a great buy.There are four shelves that can hold up to 75lbs each. This makes the total height of the cart a bit taller than the usual three-shelf utility carts, but we've really enjoyed having the extra shelf. However, some people and organizations will probably enjoy the three-shelf model better. The shelves are open on the sides, but have a ledge around three of the sides to prevent things from falling off or spilling over. The corners are rounded so if you accidently bump into a wall or door, you will hardly scratch it if at all.The shelves themselves are made from a really durable hard plastic that is weaved so it doesn't scratch or chip easily. The posts of the cart are made from a heavyweight aluminum-type metal. The casters are heavy duty, but make when assembled correctly, make no noise and leave no marks behind on the floors, whether the floors are carpeted or hard-surfaced.There is some assembly required to put this utility cart together, but the directions are very easy to follow and understand. To assemble all you'll need is some eye protection, a rubber mallet, and a Phillips screwdriver to assemble. You can use a hammer instead of a rubber mallet, but you can't hammer in the metal posts until after you've put a shelf on top.Besides just being a great utility cart, the RUBBERMAID 4-SHELF X-TRA UTILITY CART is made in the U.S.A. The community center is so satisfied with this product that they've decided that when the time comes to purchase another utility cart to have an extra on hand, they will be purchasing this one.
