I am a DIYer. I rented one of these from the HD, expecting a miserable experience, as I had before with rented sanders. A floor sander is in a class of power tools that are not practical for a DIYer to own. I was doing a 3 1/4" oak strip floor, on the second floor and I had no one to help me. The sander weighs about a ton, so I had to break it up (it made to be taken apart) to take it up my oak staircase. It was still heavy, with the main unit probably weighing 80 or more pounds. The removable parts probably took off 10 lbs or more. I was not happy when I finally got it set up on the job.Then, I fired it up. It was an absolute dream. It is so easy to use and did such a good job that I couldn't believe it. NO dust in the air, edges feathered out nicely, easy control. So much better than any sander I had rented previously. A marvel. I'm tempted to buy it (the HD will sell used units) but I don't think that I could cost justify it. I love great tools and this is a great tool.As long as you have someone to help you carry it up stairs, you're fine. I am 67 years old and it was quite a job. Assuming you don't have a second floor, this is a perfect choice. This is an example of a great company that builds stuff right and THEN puts a price on it. A real pro product. If you a considering buying a unit, I would bet that this unit will hold up well in commercial service. A great American product. This machine will pay for itself in short order.
