5Vortex are the best
By Ronson
I have the 8" vortex and I'm sold, it's almost 2x as strong as the 6". I can cool 3-4 1000w hoods with it. If you have a smaller room, Get a speed controller and it quiets down considerably. The big 12" model can move an entire basement and save you a lot of money over Air conditioning, just gotta get the ducting work done.

5Love my vortex fan
By Peter
I got an 8" used vortex fan recently.I've also got an 8" valuline fan for comparo. The vortex fan wins in almost every category - but the two fans are about the same size and push about the same amount of air. Actually the valuline is a better color (white) but that's not important where I have it mounted. The vortex is ultra-quiet on a speed control on low settings, on high it does sound like a jet, still a bit quieter than the Valuline and sounds "cleaner".If you don't have any need for speed control, you can safely get away with a cheaper C.A.P. valuline fan. The valuline REALLY shakes and knocks around when used in conjunction with a speedo. If you do want to speed control and don't need an ultra-stealthy fan - grab this one - you won't be disappointed!
