Necessary Item to Complete Your RAID Setup
By Nehemiah M. Gough
This is the battery backup unit which allows your RAID card to have battery support. This will also enable certain functionality on your RAID card that was disabled to prevent data corruption. The battery I received when tested reported back a much longer estimate than the box label for surviving without power (well over 72 hours). The only negative is that since this is such a standard item, it should not have come separate apart from the RAID cards in the first place. This unit has the bbu and also a blank card to attach the battery to allowing you to install remotely from the actual raid card. This was a simple install and took less than 15 minutes total to install.

A definiate must for reliability
By Robert
I own three 3ware cards, and I don't think I would ever go with another brand. The battery backup unit will reduce the number of times you end up having to rebuild or verify the array after an unclean shutdown or crash (which seems to happen more often then not with Vista). The battery unit also seems to reduce the chance that a drive will timeout -- which if auto-verify is enabled will result in about six hours of the system checking the array. The instruction were simple to follow, comes with everything you need including a fake pci card to mount the battery on, with some units you can mount the battery directly on the unit.

Lasted 5 years
By whatever
I'm buying a new one because the previous lasted 5 years- which I think is more than reasonable. Until it died, it normally tested at >255 hours too, so no issues.
