MOLLE 3 Day Assault Backpack

I totally disagree with the final statement in the first review. This is an ideal "grunt" backpack. I purchased this pack for my first tour to Iraq and it was a lifesaver. There was no competition between this and the packs issued to us. The straps are long as he did say in the first review, but when you are wearing it over a tactical vest with armor plates, it fits snugly and doesn't move a bit. A ton of room in the pack and a lot of MOLLE webbing that is actually spaced correctly! Many packs and vests that have the MOLLE capability that are sold on the internet arent made to the milspec standards and fail to space the webbing correctly. Overall, this pack is rugged, holds a lot, has great features and pouches and is quite comfortable. Strongly recommended.

Overall, a Good Bag BUT...

I got this bag and has been using it for the last couple of months. Aside from a couple of negative issues, I think it's reasonably constructed pack and well worth the price! But it will be up to the potential buyers to decide whether these negative points would affect their decisions.First off, it's a BIG bag and even when empty, it does weight a lot. I have been hauling my laptop plus all the supporting gears in it daily and thus far, it is holding up very well!When it's NOT completely packed to the seam, it served very nicely as a carry-on bag but if full, it would exceed some airlines' carry-on restrictionsI I was not able to fit it, 3/4 full, underneath the seat or into the overhead bin of a smaller commuter plane and ending up checking it just before boarding; I have no trouble with storing it in 737, 767 and such.Now, for the negatives...The biggest complain I do have are the shoulder strap attachments! The shoulder straps construction themselves are very sturdy and would hold the load readily. It's the attachment points of the two padded shoulder straps to the bag themselves that I do have a major issue with! See, the two clips that the shoulder straps slip through on the top of the bag are, according to my measurement, 6 inches apart! And since this is a BIG bag, the bag itself will drap lower onto my back and not sit high on my shoulders as many others I do have. So, that 6-inch gap across the back of my shoulders turn out to be 6 inches way below the back of my neck... more like across my shoulder blades. Since the shoulder straps are NOT the contoured type that would bring the tops and fronts closer to the middle of the body, the shoulder straps themselves ended up feeling like they are always ready to slip off my shoulders and down my arms!!! OK, so there is a very good sternum strap across the chest but in all honesty, the bag itself shouldn't relay on the sternum strap to hold it on my shoulders in the first place. I am seriously considering taking the bag to some tailor and see if I could move the two attachment points closer so the shoulder straps wouldn't slide off so readily!The shoulder straps are also a bit on the long side too, with the take-up portions on the lower halves of the straps tighten as far as they could, the bag is still hanging low and out from my back.The padded hip belt is also of great quality but even though I am not a small person, at 5"10" and a 42" waist, I have the hip belt pretty much clinched to its shortest already, and it is still riding a bit below my hip, thus not really able to support and help lessen the load on my shoulders.If I regularly have thick outer clothing on, none of this would be any real issues but here in Central CA, that's not the case. This bag, even with all the straps tighten and shorten, still would never be a body-hugger, and thus, that contour pad inside the bag never really serve any purpose other than to keep the bag upright.The detachable small shoulder bag is useful and my only issue with it is when I detach the bag for independent use, with all six plastic clips and 4 D-rings hanging, they have a tendency to bump into one another and the sharp clickings could be annoying and distracting at times. And with it clipped onto the outside of the bag, it would further take up more 'air space' around me and make the bag so much bigger- a definite no when I use the bag as a carry-on. So, most of the time, I simply detach the shoulder bag and use it as just another separate inner bag to hold my loose stuff in.This would not make a good tactical 'grunt' pack because of the shortcomings I have mentioned; it would not be one that I would use just to go camping in the sticks either but as my very large, day-to-day bum-around bag, this would do, for now, until I find a better, reasonably priced one.Well, I hope this would give you a reasonable idea of this bag and its worth then.

Great Bag but awkward as a backpack

Great Bag with all kinds of space. Unfortunately, it does not fit correctly as a backpack should. It sits to low behind the back and is very uncomfortable. The backpack harness is too wide and prevents the load to fit snug on your shoulder blades. The bag tends to fit at mid back and pulls away from the body. Still going to keep it and use it as a drag bag. Maybe the straps can be modified to allow the load to fit snug and higher on the back? That's too bad since this bag is clearly built tough and large enough for all your survival supplies. I prefer the snug type of fit a Kelty internal backpack provides.
