A Great, Effective, and Easy to Use Pulley Holder
By NathanSA
I congratulate Amazon on their Superb Review System - the feedback they showed for this excellent product enabled me to buy the absolute right tool (after trying other solutions) to Hold the Crankshaft Pulley on my Toyota Camry, while I loosened it's Crankshaft Bolt - tightened to 159 Foot Pounds. Some bolts, over time, are even harder to loosen !This product managesOTC 4754 Universal Pulley Holder to both hold a pulley while loosening and tightening a bolt holding the pulley. It has a strong metal arm that can be wedged effectively against a solid car or other surface, while you turn the bolt - without the need for two people. Also, the excellent feedback from one of the product's reviewers alerted me to the need to get some hardened bolts to screw into the pulley holder's two arms - the product may have worked fine on most cars, or even mine - but being alerted to, and having on hand this extra backup, certainly only helped.Lastly, over the years I've bought many books, and lately also products from Amazon - and rely on the great value of the feedback I get, at a glance, from Amazon's Reader's (or product) Reviews from their Customers.Keep it up, Amazon - it's a Superb help to All of us - saving time, learning, getting things, done...and moving many of us Forward.Nathan Abraham

Absolutely great product for the price
By Lyle Josey
I recently rebuilt the engine to my 88' Supra, and was in need of a tool to hold many different items still whilst tightening them.Ordered this in hopes it would work, and by golly, this tool is absolutely wonderful. Well made, extremely useful attachment pieces included, and comes with a neat little case.I used this to:remove and tighten cam sprocketsremove and tighten oil pump sprocket/pulleytighten harmonic balancer (aka crank pulley - 195 ft/lbs if I recall correctly)remove and tighten flywheel (by attaching this tool to the harmonic balancer, the flywheel was easily removed)Just a little tip, but to easily remove a harmonic balancer don't use the included attachments for this tool. Instead, simply BOLT this tool to the balancer (with HIGH QUALITY bolts-I actually used bolts from my old pressure plate/flywheel assembly) Keep in mind, this only applies if your balancer has bolt holes on it to aid in removal, which mine does.Anyway, just a quick tip for anyone interested.Overall very pleased with the tool, I can't imagine a better 50 dollar investment. The tool's still going strong, no breakage, even after having tightened that balancer two or three times now (had to remove it a second time recently). So, this tool CAN stand 200+ foot pounds, when it is bolted on, and the little included pieces are not used-as they just simply slide out under intense (100+ ft/lbs) pressure.Highly recommended. Love it.edit 9/30/2012:I finally managed to snap one of the smaller pins. The main things to watch out for:-make sure the pins are fully inserted and as close to whatever part you are using them on-make sure to keep the tool at as little of an angle as possible relative to whatever it is holding.seriously, those little pins can only take so much abuse. I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did for what I put them through.I still love this tool. Even without the little pins, (which I don't particularly like anyway) I can bolt this to whatever I want, and the larger pins have worked great. It's a multi-use tool, plain and simple. What you see is what you get. If you think it'll work for you, and your application is below 100 ft/lbs or so, I'd say go for it. If you're ONLY trying to tighten down a harmonic balancer to 200+ ft/lbs, forget it-it'll need to be bolted on (which I'm okay with, it works great like that).Yeah, broke a small pin, but I'm still happy with it. This thing has helped me out a lot.

does the job if adapted
By Jennifer Mason
Removing a crank shaft bolt was getting to be a major challenge. Web sites that expounded the use of an impact driver did not help, this was on tight! As others have noted, the pins provided just snapped off, but by modifying a bolt with stacks of washers I could screw this clamp tight to the pulley and with several hundred foot pounds of force the tool held and bolt unscrewed. The thicker pins will probably work if you have bigger holding holes, otherwise get a screw that fits perfect and prevent bending of screw with a stack of washers.
